Our September 2021 Member Spotlight goes to….

Chelsey Clausen!!

This month we celebrate Chelsey Clausen for our Member Spotlight!  As you’ll read, she loved weightlifting even before finding Uncommon. We are so glad you found Uncommon and have been an integral part of the family since.  Congratulations on Member Spotlight for September 2021!
Q1: What do you do for a living?

I’m a nursing supervisor, with experience in emergency medicine and pediatric trauma.

Q2: How did you get into Crossfit?

I fell in love with the sport of weightlifting and found a coach who trained me for my first competition. When he was moving, we learned that Uncommon had a barbell club and decided being in an atmosphere with other lifters would benefit me most. I had no intention of being a Crossfitter when I began, and was a little confused on my first day at Uncommon why you all were walking with eyes closed on 2×4 boards. I tried one class after that, and the rest is history.

Q3: What is your favorite CF movement? Why?

I love any of the Olympic movements because that’s where my passion lies, however StrongFit has held my interest for the last few years. Just give me a sandbag!

Q4: What is your least favorite CF movement? Why?

Burpees or wallballs – my legs are so long and it’s a long ways down.

Q5: What do you like most about Uncommon?

The community is, hands down, one of the biggest benefits of our gym. There are days I want to skip the workout but may not socialize much anyway unless I go. I always feel better after being encouraged by the coaches and talking with you all!

Q6: What have you learned most about yourself in the time that you have been members at Uncommon?
I have learned that I don’t like to be uncomfortable. It’s taken my a lot of time to interpret what that means, but mentally and physically it’s a driver for me and I continue to work on it every day. We are not meant to live in comfort and order – life is learning to adapt to our ever changing environments!
Q7: What are your guilty pleasures?

I LOVE to read, and when I start a book it’s hard for me to pace – usually it’s all or nothing and I will sacrifice sleep to finish a good book!

Q8: How do you like to spend your time outside of the gym?

I’m a fairly busy mom and spend a lot of time with my kids either at their sports or other extracurricular activities. Outside of that I’ve just been trying to learn how to relax, and how to spend my time alone! I enjoy biking, hiking, swimming, and trying new things that challenge me and make me a better person. Setting small goals every day helps me feel accomplished and Uncommon helps me do that!
