Our February 2021 Member Spotlight goes to….
Pat and Christine Schultheiss!!
.
Q2: How did you get into Crossfit?
P: Christine asked me if I wanted to go to a Community WOD on Saturday long ago.
C: I swam for a long time, then rowed at Purdue, and did a half marathon/triathlons while in grad school. I knew I needed something after graduation to keep me active and wanted to find something that would push me outside of my endurance comfort zone.
P: I love the combo of rowing and wallballs. I can do them all day.
C: I’m sure everyone will be shocked to hear that it is NOT rowing (too much time on an erg in college 🙂 ). I love power cleans, deadlifts, and dumbbell snatches.
P: Anything gymnastics. I am a large person so they are challenging. I have not put in very much extra time to improve the skills.
C: Anything gymnastics is definitely not my strength, but I don’t mind working on those. Renegade rows and manmakers are pretty low on my list because they just hurt my hands.
P: I enjoy the community atmosphere at Uncommon. Every person in the gym at any one time is there to improve themselves, but we all also want everyone else to raise their level as well. It’s not just fitness. it’s also wellbeing.
C: I like that while there is definitely competition, everyone is there supporting each other to get their own personal victories, no matter what they are.
P: I have learned (and relearned many times over by now) that consistency is key. I am not as worried about the weight on the bar or the time to complete at workout as much as I used to be. For me, I need to keep moving and be okay when my fitness is not at its peak. Life comes in seasons and some for for MAX performance in the gym and some are not. I work on staying consistent with what’s important now.
C: I tend to pace things to keep them comfortable and need someone to push me outside my comfort zone every once in a while to see what I am truly capable of.
P: Food of course. But to be specific and timely, Reese’s Hearts are the best.
C: Sleeping in without an alarm. Dairy Queen Blizzards.
P: Freshman orientation at Purdue. It was love at first “swim?” For one of us anyway.
C: We met during BGR (freshman orientation) at Purdue before classes even started! Pat and I were both planning on swimming for Purdue at the time, but ended up going to the crew callout together and the rest is history 🙂
